Hang onto your hats, Target obsessives — new stores are coming to a neighborhood near you.
retail giant shopping wonderland announced a handful of new locations for its small-format stores throughout Chicago and New York City — and openings begin this summer.
Here's why this is exciting: Unlike the enormous stores we're most familiar with, these smaller locations (originally branded as TargetExpress) are scaled down to 17,000 to 50,000 square feet and are aimed at younger shoppers in cities, suburban areas and on college campuses. They're designed for quick fill-in trips for essentials like beauty products, groceries, home decor (specializing in solutions for small spaces) and electronics. Some locations offer same-day delivery, a CVS Pharmacy, Starbucks and online order pickup.
Here are the lucky neighborhoods getting one soon:
- Wicker Park, Chicago — opening summer 2018
- Upper East Side, New York City (70th St. and Third Ave.) — opening 2019
- Staten Island, New York City (Forest Avenue Plaza) — opening 2019
- Astoria, Queens (Ditmars Blvd. and 23rd Ave.) — opening 2022
Manhattanites can also expect new Targets on the block in the East Village and Lower East Side by the end of this summer, as well as a location in Hell's Kitchen next year. The first New York small-format stores popped up in the Tribeca and Herald Square neighborhoods.
If you don't live in any of these areas, there's still hope. The company plans to have 130 small-format stores nationwide by the end of 2019.
We're more pumped than the Target Lady finding out holiday candles are on sale.
