Amazon Prime isn't just a subscription service — it's a lifestyle. If you're a member like most of us LearnVest editors, you’ll know where to find us on Monday, July 10 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. In front of a computer with an extra-large iced coffee and a Wi-Fi booster.
What is Prime Day?
First of all, congratulations on emerging from under that rock. On Prime Day, the e-commerce giant goes gangbusters with deals. New items roll out every 5 minutes, and the extravaganza continues for 30 hours.
What's New This Year
The sale is longer this year, and more shoppers across 13 countries can participate, including in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Mexico, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium and Austria.
Here's what else Amazon is breaking out for its third-annual Prime Day:
Deal Notifications: Since deals come out on a rolling basis, by using the Amazon App you can preview a deal up to 24 hours before it's live, then track the item and get an alert when it's up for grabs. A few of us are already getting our Christmas shopping lists together and preparing to scout deals on kids toys. (What can we say — we're planners!)
Personalized Items: Don't want to spend your afternoon sifting through literally millions of deals? Find sale items grouped by theme based on your interests, from pets to gardening to tech. Two years ago, I basically furnished my just-moved-into apartment with Prime Day deals, and I'm hoping searching by personalized categories this year can help me do the same — but faster — for my new place.
Voice Shopping: If you own an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Amazon Tap, compatible Fire TV or Fire tablet, you get the inside scoop on exclusive deals.
Deals to Look Out For
TVs: Amazon hopes to go big or go home with their TV inventory by "planning one of its largest total volume TV deals in history with a record level of inventory," per a company press release. Among the offerings will be the Amazon Fire TV edition of the Element 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV. If you're hoping to outfit or upgrade your home theater system, July 11 could be a good time to do so.
Small-business offerings: Thousands of small businesses and services will be participating this year, accounting for an estimated 40% of upcoming lightning deals.
Deals to Grab Today
Despite all the hype of getting your sale on in July, you don't have to wait for a few Prime-specific discounts. Starting today, you can save on Amazon Music, Kindle and Audible, for audiobooks.
