Note to college self: Go to that corporate recruiting fair and get a job in tech!
It’s not that writing isn’t a labor of love — don’t get me wrong. But Glassdoor is out with its annual list of the 25 Highest Paying Companies in America and — surprise, surprise — 20 of them are in the tech industry, with the remaining five in consulting and finance.
There are the familiar names — Facebook, Google, Twitter and Microsoft — and also some you may not recognize, like Palo Alto Networks and Informatica, which provide enterprise-level cybersecurity and data management software, respectively. Topping the list again this year are global consulting firms, A.T. Kearney and Strategy&.
Wondering what kind of paycheck you’d be looking at if you could land a job with one of these giants? Of course, it depends on your specific position, but six-figure salaries are the average. The full list offers a breakdown for each company, which Glassdoor calculated by looking at reports in which employees volunteered to anonymously share their base pay and other forms of compensation (i.e. commissions, tips, bonuses) over the past year.
Glassdoor also notes that all of these companies are “ramping up hiring.” I’ll be sticking with this career I love, but if you’re in the market for a new gig, it might be time to start looking for openings. And remember, even if an offer beyond your wildest salary dreams comes in, there’s still room to negotiate, especially when it comes to those benefits and perks that can really make a difference in your day to day.
