Some people scour Pinterest boards. Some flip through glossy catalogs.
And millions of others go to Maxwell Ryan to help guide them through their home design and organizing conundrums.
The 49-year-old founder and C.E.O. of Apartment Therapy launched his design blog in 2004 with one key mission in mind: to help people “make their homes more beautiful, organized and healthy.”
More than a decade, three books and a cooking-focused spinoff site later, Ryan debuts a new book this month, “Apartment Therapy: Complete + Happy Home,” which covers everything from finding the right type of home to designing your house with a combination of elbow grease and great style.
Just before he jumped in a van for a three-week book and home makeover road tour, we caught up with Ryan to talk shop about home decorating myths, why happiness is overrated—and the important financial lessons he’s learned along the way.
