Embrace the July 2015 Call to Action (You Could Win $100!)

BBQs, summer Fridays at the beach, balmy nights illuminated by fireflies—July is here!

If you're under the age of 24, July also happens to be a prime time of year to make some extra cash babysitting, life guarding, lawn mowing, camp counseling ... the list of classic summer gigs goes on and on.

The bonus spending money aside, there's another benefit to holding a summer job as a teen: A study by the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program found that it makes finding employment down the road easier. Resume building, anyone?

But while some summer gigs can't end soon enough (who ever thought waiting tables on roller skates was a good idea?), we believe even regrettable jobs can have a financial silver lining.

Which brings us to our July call to action: What was your worst summer job—and what did it teach you about money?

Maybe blowing your minimum-wage bowling alley paycheck inspired you to start tracking your spending.

Or perhaps the upside of lugging golf clubs in the heat was learning a thing or two about the subtleties of networking.

Whatever it is, we want to hear about it in the comments below—and you’ll be entered for a chance to win $100! And be sure to use your email address when you comment—it won’t be visible to other users—so we can notify you should you win.

Open only to legal residents of the 50 states and the District of Columbia who are at least 18 years old as of the date of entry. Premium users are not eligible. Contest running from July 2, 2015, through July 22, 2015. Finalists must be willing to share their name and a photo to be eligible for consideration. We will select the most compelling entry as the winner, and his or her story may be published on the site.
