PayPal Sets Its Sights on Outer Space

outer spacePayPal is going where no payments system has gone before … space.

CNN Money reports that the company will launch an inter-planetary payments program for space tourists.

Space tourism? Sounds cool, huh?

And pretty far-fetched. But it’s not as much of a pipe dream as you’d think–companies like Virgin Galactic and Space X have been working on making consumer space travel a reality.

“We don’t have all the answers right now, but it’s clear we won’t be using cash when we’re in space,” David Marcus, PayPal’s president, told CNN Money.

PayPal has launched a crowd-funding campaign to finance research for a space payments system.

Until the system is up and running, be sure to bring some extra cash for any inter-planetary travel.
