Wouldn’t it be nice if some of the considerable time we invest in Facebook could pay off in savings?
It can. Facebook convinced us when some friends ours were alerted to a special at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City and shaved more than $100 off the conference rate when they then attended an event. More and more businesses are creating Facebook pages for themselves and inviting customers to “like” them, and watching their walls can earn you special coupons and discounts, as well as alert you to special sales before anyone else finds out. So whenever you find a Facebook link for a company you buy from, it makes sense to check out its Facebook page, evaluate its deals, and hit "like." Twitter isn't the only site chock-full of deals! To get you started, here are six companies whose Facebook pages are worth watching.
1. Old Navy
If you like Old Navy’s style, it’s definitely worth liking the company for the frequent special offers it announces on Facebook. Recent specials announced include a 25% discount for students and teachers, 20% off everything you can stuff into a free Old Navy tote bag for those with Old Navy cards, and a 30% off store-wide sale.
Sears offers just about everything, and you can find out about discounts on a variety of different products by liking their page. Recent offers include a 3% bonus on Christmas Club savings (better than most savings accounts), $5 off a $25 book purchase, and a chance to win a set of new Energy Star appliances.
If you need new technology, you can find great deals by liking HP. Recent promotions included $859 off the HP Touchsmart 600 with peripherals, $300 savings on high-end laptops, and $75 of free songs if you buy and HP PC with Beats Audio.
If you love travel bargains, Expedia’s Facebook page offers specials to a wide variety of destinations around the world. One recent special: Book three nights for a weekend getaway and get a gift card for $50 of gas.
5. Best Western
In other travel news, the Best Western chain offers discounts and specials such as free event and attraction passes on its Facebook page. Definitely like it if you enjoy travel trivia: There’s a new contest every week with a chance to win gift cards.
You want discounts on everything? Try liking RetailMeNot. RetailMeNot is a site where users post and share coupon codes to over 65,000 stores, and many discounts and coupons are now being posted to its Facebook page. (Speaking of, check out our post on coupon-sharing sites!)
