With Halloween just around the corner (or, em, the weekend), we’re getting in the festive mood. Short of dimming the lights and starting a bonfire in the LearnVest office, we’re scratching our itch for Halloween intrigue by sharing scary stories. We came up with 7 financial ghost stories and—since we want to prepare you for every financial situation—we also laid out how you’d get out of each of these spooky situations.

    The thing I’m always most afraid of is going up to the counter at the grocery store and having all of my cards (including debit) rejected! I know its not that scary, but I can’t imagine how hard it would be to have to just walking away without being able to buy my groceries. I’ve actually had nightmares about it, where everyone else in the line starts heckling me. So scary!

    I’m going to graduate from school soon and I’m really scared of never finding a job! Or that I’ll find one, move all my stuff to a new city and never find a place to live! I don’t know why, but I can’t shake the idea that I’ll be living in my parents basement for the next 20 years.

    Last week, the clutch in my car blew. I’m a full-time grad student, without much in savings. The $800 bill (plus the cost of public transportation for work and eating out without the time to cook) has killed me. Talk about a living nightmare.
