Although there’s a whole mental aspect to this, you can start by addressing the physical space in your home where you pay your bills and store your files: Clean out your desk. Start with the easy stuff. Keep receipts for big-ticket items attached to warranties for as long as the warranty covers (at least a year). Trash receipts for small purchases after a year. Shred documents that you no longer need that contain any personal information. Clearing the clutter is one small step that’ll help you feel at peace with your finances.
