With Fashion’s Night Out this Friday, September 10th, there are plenty of options to choose from for the big event—a thousand, to be exact. With retailers trying their hardest to lure in freely-spending crowds, we’re cluing you in on the crème-de-la-crème of the evening with six events that are sure to be a good time, regardless of how much money you don’t spend.
Mercer Street Block Party
Rag & Bone and 3.1 Phillip Lim will be hosting a block party that’s taking over one of SoHo’s chicest streets. Enjoy American food favorites (burgers, shakes, fries), a live DJ, and a performance by My Gold Mask. Pop into the stores to meet all of the designers: Phillip will be on hand at his store, styling clients from 6-9pm while the boys of rag & bone, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, will be styling guests in their favorite fall looks. Gucci Westman of Revlon will be on hand to give mini makeovers and a secret Revlon spokes model will be stopping by.
Mercer Street, between Spring and Prince Streets.
Elizabeth and James
The pop up shop will be celebrating Fashion’s Night Out with everyone’s favorite Full Housers and designers, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who will be ringing registers from 7-8pm before their trek to Barneys. There will be snacks, Tarot card readings and henna tattoos for guests while DJ Cassie Coane keeps the crowd moving.
632 Hudson Street.
If you have a guy friend (or more-than-friend) tagging along for the night, bring him to Billy Reid. Their theme for the evening is Southern hospitality, offering up Southern infused drinks (last year’s bourbon drinks were all the rage) and refreshments. An exclusive, not yet announced, band will be playing in store. Plus, it will be easy to hit up some other hot spots on Bond Street once the booze runs out.
54 Bond Street.
Bloomingdale’s is a great place to go if you only have time for one stop, with special guests and events on each floor of the store there will be plenty to do. Michael Kors, “True Prep” authors Lisa Birnbach and Chipp Kidd, Carmen Marc Valvo, Kay Unger, Chef Morimoto, and many more will be on hand to give cooking lessons, play ping-pong, and teach tango.
1000 3rd Avenue.
While it may be hard to snag an invite to see Mikhail Baryshnikov at Oscar de la Renta on Fashion’s Night Out, Chanel will be offering color-customizing of their iconic Ballerina flats. If dance isn’t your thing, free mini-manicures will be up for grabs with colors from their to die for Les Khakis de Chanel collection, which was created exclusively for Fashion’s Night Out and which prove to be a much more affordable option and are limited-editions.
737 Madison Avenue.
Barneys New York
Barneys brings downtown chic uptown for Fashion’s Night Out with some of the hottest designers in the biz, including Alexander Wang, the Proenza Schouler boys, and Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, to name a few. The evening is filled with events (ping-pong, musical chairs, karaoke) and exclusives (a Fashion’s Night Out Alexander McQueen scarf) and refreshments. Barneys was a big hit last year so come early and stay late.
660 Madison Avenue.
All of the retailers listed will be selling the Fashion’s Night Out Collection in stores the night of. If you’re looking for a chic souvenir to pick up without dropping big bucks, the collection is reasonably priced, iconic, and its proceeds go to the New York City AIDS Fund.
