Birthday Freebies To Watch Out For

Birthday Freebies To Watch Out For

We may have outgrown the silly hats and the games of pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, but we still love birthdays. In addition to gifts from friends and family members, tons of businesses offer birthday freebies, too.

We have a friend who scheduled her 30th birthday around visiting as many stores and restaurants as possible to maximize her birthday benefits.

LV Tip: Some restaurants or retailers give you as long as a month to cash in on freebies. Others expect you to show ID to prove it’s the official day.

We’ve rounded up an array of birthday goodies for your bargain-loving pleasure. Most of these require that you subscribe to an email list, so you may want to create a separate email account for this purpose and sign up at least a few weeks in advance.

For The Beauty Buff

Sephora’s Beauty Insiders are eligible for a get-gorgeous birthday gift. To get your gift (word on the street is that it’s lip gloss, but Sephora leaves this ambiguous on their site), you’ll need to place an order on Sephora.com within 14 days of your birthday or visit the store in person (no purchase necessary for the latter). Aveda also has a birthday program where you can sign up to get a free Caribbean Therapy Body Crème sample at your nearest Aveda location.

For The Fashionista

Shoe-lovers can score a $5 birthday certificate by signing up for the DSW Rewards program. Jenny Wiglesworth, designer and owner of fashion brand Delladonna Marie, tells us she’ll give a 20% discount to birthday girls who contact her via her website or blog. And for those who want to fashionably feather the nest, Cost Plus World Market promises a “surprise birthday gift” to customers who join its Explorer Rewards Program.

For the Frugal Foodie

Starbucks offers a free beverage on your birthday when you register your Starbucks card. You can also score a free birthday cookie from Quizno’s and free ice cream from Coldstone Creamery. Other restaurant chains with birthday freebies for email list members include Qdoba, Ruby Tuesday, Uno’s, and Not Your Average Joe’s. Aside from the national chains, many restaurants or bars offer freebies or discounts if you simply show up and ask (especially if you’re a regular). Just be sure to tip on the full amount or you may not get your birthday benefits next year!
