We at LearnVest love a great adventure. But while we are in absolute awe of Abby Sunderland attempting to be the youngest person to sail around the world solo, she also sends us into a state of panic! The 16-year-old adventure queen set sail in late January from California. After losing her satellite phone contact on Thursday in the middle of the Indian Ocean, she caused quite a stir and triggered an immediate rescue. Thankfully, an Australian spotter jet located her late last evening…phew. We love thrill-seekers like Abby but do not recommend being nearly as extreme. To satisfy your adventure cravings, check out Rafting America and choose among their selection of rafting tour operators. Or look into LearnVest’s 7 Local Summer Adventures to find an activity not quite as terrifying as a sail around the globe.
