So, we'll say it outright: We freakin' love the drugstore. Its beauty aisles, at least. Considering that we usually pay $5 to $8 for many of our various needs, we save hundreds of dollars per year over department store cosmetic counters or even Sephora.
You know who also loves drugstore beauty products? Celebrities. And who doesn't love celebs?
Here are a few favorites:
Natalie Portman uses Cetaphil cleanser to wash her face. It’s gentle and doesn’t dry your skin, so you shouldn't need to glob on heavy moisturizer. ($7.99 at Walgreens)
Kim Kardashian accentuates her famous smokey eyes with Maybelline’s Great Lash mascara. She layers her mascara, applying one coat and then adding two more. As she says, "I like volume!" It's a total steal when compared to a $24 mascara from Sephora. ($5.29 at CVS)
Smith’s Rosebud Salve is totally portable and instantly makes your lips smooth. The little metal pot lasts forever and is a favorite of Katherine Heigl and Eva Longoria. ($6 at online drugstores and American Apparel)
The makeup artist who styles Vanessa Hudgens, Leighton Meester, and Kelly Clarkson swears by Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, and we agree: Putting powder on your face to absorb shine can cause breakouts. For less than five bucks, target your problem spots and skip another expensive layer of makeup. ($4.29 at Walgreens)
We've never thought of celebrities as being particularly frugal, but they can teach us a thing or two about our own beauty aisles. What's next? Maybe they'll help us balance our portfolios.
