The Early Bird Gets the Tax Advice ... For Free

Nobody wants to deal with taxes (or even start thinking about them) until, say, April 14th. At the earliest.

Well, that's not going to fly. Getting a move on your taxes now will save you anxiety and money.

Through January 31st, TurboTax is offering its "Ask an Expert" promotion, in which any U.S. taxpayer (you don't have to be a user of the software) can get any one federal tax question answered FOR FREE. Bring on your toughest; they'll tackle your query, no matter how tricky you think it is. Just submit your question at freetaxquestion.com, specify a two-hour time window in which you're available by phone, and then expect a call within a day or two from one of TurboTax's IRS-enrolled agents or tax preparers. That person has reviewed your question in advance and will stay on the phone for however long you need to answer any related questions. (Though, on average, calls run under twenty minutes.)

Considering that TurboTax's rates for this service are usually $29.95 for the first 20 minutes and $19.95 for an additional 20 (and a CPA would undoubtedly cost much more), this is a no-brainer.
