Understand Why Your Credit Report Is Important
Your credit report is like a file on you and your credit history. It includes:
- Your personal information (social security number, past addresses, current address, employment history)
- A summary of your financial accounts (and how responsible you’ve been with them—let’s hope you paid your bills on time!)
- Whether or not you’ve filed for bankruptcy
- Any inquiries that have been made on your credit report (from lenders, for example)
All of this information is put through a complex mathematical formula, and boom, you get your credit score (but more on that in Step 5). Your credit report includes a lot of significant information that defines your credit score, so your financial freedom is pretty dependent upon it.
