Thanks to a $499 TravelZoo deal, most of the LearnVest editorial team headed to Iceland this November for a spontaneous trip and some team bonding. Left to right: Laura, Alden, Carrie, Allison, Maria (We missed Gabrielle, Cheryl and Libby, who stayed behind and held down the fort!)

Laura found us a great apartment on Airbnb--we each had our own room and only paid $40 a night. We had to walk about 15 minutes into Reykjavik, but totally worth the savings. We love Airbnb!
-
The breathtaking architecture of the famous Hallgrimskirkju church in Reykjavik.
-
The interior was just as stunning. Regardless of faith background, we all fell silent, just soaking up the awe-inspiring, peaceful atmosphere.
-
Some of us lit candles, enjoying the small moment and the flickering flames.
-
The Icelandic countryside was stunning as it was varied. We got on a tour bus (yes, we did one of those)--which allowed us to just sit back and enjoy the scenery. From a golden countryscape...
-
To the raging Gullfoss waterfall, which is the most powerful waterfall in Europe.
-
We felt the spray on our faces and enjoyed spotting a rainbow.
-
The gang at the entrance to the Blue Lagoon, surrounded by lava rock.
-
The neon blue waters of the Blue Lagoon, glowing from the algae and minerals.
-
An Icelandic sunset.
-
Lava rock in the countryside.
-
Maria stopped to enjoy some down time in a local cafe. Note all the blond hair and Nordic sweaters!
-
Sometimes you have to take a picture before you can dive in and savor...food is a perfect example. A delicious dish at famed restaurant Fish Company, our splurge meal on the trip.
-
Famous Icelandic hot dogs.
-
Allison, Carrie and Maria bought matching Icelandic house slippers ($10 each - score!)... to bring home much toasty-footed enjoyment.
-
Carrie takes a moment on the tour to enjoy basking in the sunlight. Aaah, now that's savoring!
