Your July Financial To-Dos

No matter how you define it—by school calendar, by temperature or by implementation of shortened Fridays at work—summer is finally here.

Between daydreaming about weekends away (side note: Did you know that daydreaming can actually be good for you?) and planning out how to enjoy every extra ray of sun, we know your calendars are full.

Chill Out. Deadline: Saturday, July 7

Look, it’s summertime. If you stress out too much over the things you have to do, you won’t actually enjoy the longer days and balmy nights. Taking a break isn’t just a nice thing to talk about—it actually helps you perform more efficiently at work and in life. So this weekend, give yourself a bona fide break. Not convinced yet? Then you should probably read a little more about burnout, and how women under 30 are suffering the most.

Take Stock of Your Energy Use. Deadline: Saturday, July 14

Sit down with your most recent electricity bill and figure out what you could do to reduce it for next month. Reassess Your Budget. Deadline: Friday, July 21

Go to the LV My Money Center to make sure you’re sticking to your current budget. Vacation spending can throw it off, so make sure you reallocate for the coming months if you’re spending more during the summer (but there are ways to cut down on those costs!). Adjust your numbers if your income, goals or lifestyle has changed.

Make Over Your Medicine Cabinet. Deadline: Tuesday, July 24

A cluttered beauty drawer might not seem like a big deal, and it might seem to have nothing at all to do with your finances. But each year, American women aged 30 to 49 spend approximately $1,200 on cosmetics alone, according to Newsweek. Get Tidy Around the House. Deadline: Thursday, July 28

Whether or not you’re moving this year, take the opportunity to spruce up your home—fix and paint holes in the wall, touch up scrapes in a wooden floor or just switch out some of your home accessories to achieve a new look. This low-key home makeover will go a long way, whether you’re trying to make your house look good for potential homebuyers or trying to make sure you get your security deposit back from your landlord.
