Under: Debt
Transferring to a 0% APR
  • I have a financial goal of paying down my CC- currently at 13.9% APR and having a hard time..

any reccomendations on opening a 0% APR credit card and transferring the balance. Good/Bad idea? Does any credit card suffice?

    Thank you!
  • Hi MariaSpencer! In July of 2010 I had about $7k in cc debt on my 1major cc which had a minimal 9.9% APR. Due to the nationwide APR hikes it jumped to 13.9% and I was PISSED! After doing months, yes 2 months, of research & due diligence I decided to transfer my balance to a 6 month introductory 0% APR cc with Chase. And honestly it was the best thing I ever did! My credit score jumped up about 10 points & I paid off my debt within those 6 months!!! Yes it was hard but knowing I was up against a deadline helped a lot & It felt so good knowing every payment was going right to my debt and not interest!
So if you're scared, just do your research and get the best cc for you and make sure you pay off that new card before the 0% time period ends!
  • thanks so much :)
  • God I would do anything to have a 0% interest APR :( Chase raised my rate to 29.9% for NO reason. I am on autopay so I never miss a payment and actually pay 400 every 2 weeks to my card. Still is going to take me approx 16 months to pay off my credit card but man if I had 0% interest I would have that paid off in 8 month grrrr. Any advice would be great
  • Citi offers a card with 0% interest for 1 year.. Love it.. Chase raised your APR because you pay on time and they aren't making enough money off of you.. Sorry but that's how they work..
