Comcast Vs. Roku?
  • Hello!

I am in a constant battle with Comcast - I hate giving them money. Has anyone switched to a Roku box? How was that experience? What did you do for internet? Most of my Comcast bill is internet...

    Thank you!
  • Lola.B,
I am wondering the same thing! I hope someone out there has some experience and advice about this question.
  • Hi LolaB and Nwrain,

I have a Roku box, although I haven't shut off my cable subscription because sometimes I watch TV live. I actually love my Roku box, and it's great if you find you watch a lot of Hulu.

With a Roku box, you'll still need an Internet subscription, which you'll probably continue to get from Comcast assuming they provide you a good deal. The thing is, these companies hate having a "single-play" subscriber (customer who subscribes to 1 service only), so if you try to cancel your TV subscription, they may transfer you to a 'retention specialist' who will give you a good deal to keep you on track.

At the very least, I'd try to call them and threaten to cancel - say you're thinking about switching to FiOS or AT&T U-Verse. They really want to hang onto customers, so they might lower your bill!

Let us know how it works out :)

  • Roku (and other such "streaming devices") are relatively inexpensive these days. But if you insist on watching "live TV" sometimes, or if, like me, you watch a lot of sports, then I would just stick with a basic cable package. As Lindsay said, the bundles are a deal since you're already going to pay for Internet anyway.
OR...get the local channels/internet bundle, THEN use Roku. This doesn't work for me because I watch a lot of NBA on TNT and a lot of ESPN.
