Hello - Looks like a nice tool. Can you compare what you offer to what Mint.com offers and show the differences? I have been with Mint for some time, and I'm open to making a change if you offer things they don't, but it's not clear to me what those things might be? Thank you,
As someone who was hoping to switch over completely from Mint, I'm interested in the same information.
mcb, the education part of this site has been helpful for me. Unfortunately, I'm unable to link most of the accounts I have on my Mint profile to LearnVest for some reason. That's forcing me to use both concurrently. Also, the categories for transactions are different on the two sites, but they are customizable. The LV site appears to be slower, too. I advise playing with the two and seeing what you like better. Personally, if I can ever get all my accounts to LV, I'm switching. The budgeting tool here works better for how I think about money. Good luck!
I'm not a giant fan of Mint, but it's mostly because I'm a bookkeeper and use Quickbooks all the time... online tools are hard to get used to because they have so much less functionality. Also, Mint once decided to take a category we had created and change it to Mobile Apps, something we almost never need, and reset all the things we'd previously had set as our custom category to Mobile Apps. Just randomly. It's also just harder to use for me. I've not used LV, though (the boyfriend uses Mint, and it seems silly for us to use two online budget trackers).
i don't think i can leave mint.com just yet because for me, the mint.com budgeting and goal setting tools are much more comprehensive than learnvest. since i have been on mint for over 4 years, i like checking out my spending trends and seeing how i dug myself out of credit card debt using their goal-setting. i also LOVE the mint.com app so i can easily check in on my budgets if i'm at a restaurant or store. i check it all the time (almost obsessively)! it has helped me keep myself in check and get out of credit card debt!
i love learnvest for the articles and the discussions, and would be interested in switching over in the future, but right now mint is just too comfortable and easy for me to use.
I used mint for a few years. Deleted my account after numerous problems with updating accounts, and then one of my investment accounts "was no longer supported by mint." it just became useless after awhile...brand new to LV and also in the financial planning field. Proud to support a women-run financial organization!
I left Mint. It was just too much. I didn't want to spend too much time managing it. If you want simplicity you want Learnvest. At the time all I wanted was a way to set a budget and see how things were coming along during the month. The ease of use and simplicity is what won me over ultimately. But I guess it all depends on what your looking for.
I left Mint as well. I like the NEWLY updated Learnvest SO much better. It's much easier to use, and much more organized. I completely agree with Danni. The fact that it is so user-friendly is exactly why I switched.
I used Mint for awhile, and had the same problem other people mentioned about having to constantly re-link accounts.
I also hated that I had to sift through literally every single transaction that I had in my accounts since the accounts opened. I'm OCD about being organized so the time it would have taken to sift back through nearly 10 or 11 months of financial data was insane - but if I didn't do that my spending trends would be off! I gave up almost as soon as I started.
LV is clean, simple, and by-women-for-women, which is something I totally support (since we all understand the absolute NEED to shop ;) ). And its aesthetically pleasing (such pretty colors!) so logging on is easy.
I feel the same way about Mint that others mentioned- having to sift and sort through all those dull looking transactions was so time consuming! LV has updated its website and now it looks great. The only thing I dont like is how I cannot set a general periority goal. The goal has to be linked to an account. Right now, I am paying back a relative, and I pay them from my online bill pay. Hard to get this to show up in LV but hopefully they will let you fix this.
I totally agree with delananicole, if only we could just make goals without linking accounts, but at the same time....i understand why it's this way, so that it can be realistic. Another thing that furstrates me is the ... updating part. When I make a transaction or I get money put in my account.... it takes 3 to 4 days to relfect it on my LV account. Recently it's been alot better. So I'm happy about that.
The thing I noticed that LV has an advantage over mint is the ease of use. Mint was a chore. LV has a more simplified and easier to use interface. The simplification is actually a good thing for me because I tend to make my budget too complicated. I end up with too many categories, and it gets too involved. Assuming the simplicity works for you now (I'm hoping LV will get more sophisticated) the ease of dragging and dropping (or changing categories within a particular transaction) is so much easier than mint. I like the "Inbox" idea!
I may be switching to LV. I have had an account for a while, but a lot of my accounts were not accessible. Now, I am having the same problem with Mint. It seems financial institutions and retail cards are not allowing access. So far everything except my retirement account is accessible via LV.
