Day 1 Your Career, Your Finances
Step 1Step 2Step 3LEARN IT
Welcome to Build Your Career Bootcamp! Congratulations on taking an important step toward getting your career to support your financial goals and, more broadly, your life.
While we often think of our jobs as being separate from our “real” lives, the truth is that they are intertwined. The times we become most aware of how our work affects our lives tend to be the times it’s having a negative impact. Maybe we’re having to work long hours, putting a dent in our social lives. Or maybe our work is stressing us out so much we’re losing sleep, sapping our energy to make it to the gym.
But your job is much more than what you’re doing (or how you’re feeling) today. How much you earn—and how you manage it—is your key to reaching your biggest life goals, whether that’s traveling across the world, buying your dream home or affording college for your kids.
In these two weeks, we’ll analyze every aspect of your career to see how you can best get the hours you put in to support your big dreams. We’ll cover expert networking skills, the best way to ask for a raise and how to shine in the job you’re in—or land a new one.
How Your Career Relates to Your Financial Life
Among the many roles work performs in our lives, one of the most important is that it provides us an income.
Unless you inherit wealth or win the lottery, your salary (along with your choice of life partner) will largely determine your lifestyle: what kind of home you have, whether or not you can buy a car and what kind, how often you travel, how often you eat out, what kind of clothing you wear and more. Your income will also influence how you get through major life milestones, such as getting married, having a family, educating your children, saving for retirement, etc.
Move on to Step 2 for a look at how your career lines up with your financial goals at each life stage.
