It’s a hard conversation to have, that last one.
What if she cries? What if he yells? And what if you regret the decision later?
We’re talking about telling your boss—not your significant other—that you’re leaving.
Luckily, nervous quitters across the country have been given a reprieve, sort of: “Quit Your Job,” the new app from employment company TheLadders, will give a tongue-in-cheek notice for you.
Inspired by BreakupText (which is exactly what it sounds like), the free app for iPhone and Android lets you “take the easiest path to unemployment,” according to its description in the Apple Store. The creators of BreakupText teamed up with TheLadders to build this new iteration.
“Just tell the app why you’re leaving, what you’re planning on doing next, and our state-of-the-art messaging system will take care of the rest,” the description continues. The ready-made reasons for leaving include options like “I’m sick of the corporate world,” and you can also choose from a menu of future plans, including “I’m going to marry rich.”
And it isn’t only your boss you can notify: The app also allows you to message your partner or friend. Once you select the appropriate options, the app composes a poetically worded text explaining your predicament. (One option starts, “Outside the office window today, there floated a butterfly …”).
Give it a try and “notify” a friend who has a sense of humor. But hopefully it goes without saying: Please don’t actually quit your job via app.
