Or, you know, something less cliched but clearly identified as European.
A new report from the Center for Economic and Policy Research suggests that making the American work model more “European” (that is, less intense) would have environmental benefits.
The argument is related to the greenhouse gasses emitted by the planes, trains and automobiles bringing us to and from the office. Fox News reports that shorter work weeks and more vacation time could reduce those emissions and slow the increase of the global temperature by the year 2100 by as much as half.
Of course, it’s pointed out that working less means earning less, but let’s not let that fact dampen our glee. Working from (or napping on) the couch could help save the polar bears? Sign us up.
