Infographic: The Rise of Women in the Senate

In case you haven't heard, last week's election ushered in 20 women to the United States Senate--a historical high, and three times as many as there were only 20 years ago.

Nerdwallet put together the infographic below, depicting exactly what a big deal it is that 20% of the Senate is female (20 seems to be the magic number, doesn't it?), where these senators are from and which party they represent.

As you'll see, this class has a couple of other firsts: The first openly gay Senator (Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin) and the first Asian-American woman in the Senate (Mazie Hirono of Hawaii).
