Your Three Money Must-Dos

Alexa von Tobel, Founder & CEO of LearnVest

I built LearnVest to help you through every financial decision you'll ever have to make. You joined because you want to get control of your money. Well, today, that's EXACTLY what you're going to do. Yes, today, no procrastinating.

I'm so excited to announce massive upgrades to the FREE Money Center—the only tool you will ever need for your money. You've probably heard us talk about it in the past. In fact, nearly 30% of you are logging in 17 times a month.

The Money Center is now setup to help you accomplish the three most important things I know you can do for your financial security. I call them the Money Must-Dos.

Money Must-Do #1: See How Your Budget Compares to a Healthy Budget

Creating a budget you can actually stick to is the most important way to stay on top of your money. The new Smart Budget breaks your expenses into Essentials, Lifestyle and Priority Goals so you finally have a realistic picture of your expenses and spending patterns.  We recommend going through the new Budget Setup flow to update your existing budget so you can see how your budget compares to LearnVest's ideal budget. I guarantee you'll find at least one area where you're spending way more than you think you are (for me it was takeout)!

Get Expert Advice on Your Budget

The Budget Starter financial plan from LearnVest Planning lets you work with a financial expert who can help you set up an easy-to-manage budget, or find more money in the one you've got. She'll even give you a weekly "extras budget" that you can spend 100% guilt-free.  Get started on a three-month membership for just $89.  (View a sample plan.)

Step 1: Create a Smart Budget

Money Must-Do #2: Set a Goal (Any Goal)

Thinking about the future can be daunting. You don't need to have it all figured out, but you can break down your goals into small, easy-to-achieve tasks. Whether it's paying down your credit card debt or saving for a big trip, enter one goal you want to work toward right now.  For me, setting that first goal was like losing the first five pounds (I'm getting married next year, you know how it is).  Reaching your goals actually becomes exciting and fun when you can see the amazing progress you're making.

Get a 5-Year Financial Roadmap

Once you set a goal, you'll start to see progress, but you may soon realize you need serious motivation and a real plan to keep going. For $349, LearnVest Planning offers a customized 5-year financial plan created for you by a Certified Financial Planner®. With your one-year membership, you'll get a plan to reach your goals, a calendar that tells you exactly how much money to allocate each month and quarterly check-ins so you stay on track. (View a sample plan.)

Step 2: Set a Goal

Money Must-Do #3: Find Out How Much You Have to Invest

Trust me, you don't need millions—or even thousands—sitting in the bank to start investing. You just need to know your bottom line and how much you can put away each month.  When you connect your accounts in the Money Center, we'll show you the big picture (your assets, liabilities and net worth). If you want to free up more money for retirement, or you're at the point where you can start building a portfolio, now's the time.

Get Expert Investing Advice

I think it's great to save money in a savings account, but investing enables your money to keep growing and outpace inflation, which is one of the smartest money moves you can make. It can be hard to dive in and know how to invest—that's why we're here to help, whether you're just getting started or need expert help deciding how to allocate your portfolio.

Your LearnVest Planning expert can now advise you on your investments, with our new Portfolio Builder plan. Your expert can co-browse your Money Center to see where you're doing well, and where you could use a little guidance. She'll also be able to see the type of retirement accounts you have and make suggestions if there is a better way to allocate your portfolio. At $599, we're proud to offer this one-year premium membership at a fraction of the cost of traditional financial planning services. (View a sample plan.)

Step 3: Find Out Your Bottom Line

Progress You Can See

Trends and analysis are an important part of understanding how your financials change over time, so with the new Smart Budget and Priority Goals features we're excited to bring you dynamic charts and graphs that will help you quickly and easily make sense of your money.

We're Here to Help

If you have any questions about the new Money Center you can email our Dedicated Support Team, or visit the updated Help Center for a list of common questions about the new platform.

Nice ideas. The costs are ridiculous. If you really wanted to help people budget, costs of $89 for 3 months and getting increasingly higher are really unreasonable. Spend lots of money so as to learn how to save. I would say the first thing to be done is cut out unnecessary expenses like paying $89 for someone to create a budget for you that you can do yourself!
