In the past, we’ve talked about money comparisonitis and its equally evil twin, mompetition. At LearnVest, we want you to live your richest life, which means splurging from time to time and living a full life, rather than an ascetic one.
That said, we want you to splurge on things because you want to, not because you’re being peer pressured by the people around you, or because others are making you feel guilty. It’s human nature to compare yourself to those around you, but it’s not good for us when we let those negative feelings run away from us.
It’s the flip side of the same coin when you are the perpetrator of the comparisonitis game. Whether you have trouble stopping yourself from bragging to others about your financial achievements or you can’t help the need to keep up with the Joneses, you might be using too much mental space looking at other people and their possessions or accomplishments.
Take our quiz to see if you’ve got the comparisonitis bug, and check out the quiz results for guidance on how to deal with it.
