Put down that hot dog this Memorial Day. We've got a better alternative.
From beach picnics to classic backyard barbecues, Memorial Day is a time to soak up the burgeoning summer weather, remember those who have come before us, and enjoy the loved ones who are with us now. And, also, to eat.
No matter where you’re headed this year—or if you’re throwing a modest feast of your own—one of the great joys of warm weather get-togethers is the light, fresh food. When you’re deciding what to bring to a party or potluck, remember that people generally feel more comfortable snatching an assembled snack than, for example, dipping a chip into hummus. So, we’ve come up with finger foods that are easy to pick up while chatting, require minimal culinary time and acumen, and look more luxe than your grocery bill would indicate.
We’ve compiled a few options for appetizers, salads, side dishes, and dessert. Of course, if you’re hosting your own get-together, you can always make them all for a well-rounded midday buffet.
