The War On Drugs: 40 Years And $1 Billion Later, Still Going Strong [Infographic]

Just say no. No to drugs, that is. Not to the fact that the United States has laughable class mobility, isn’t all that prosperous, or is a driving force in the production of recreational drugs.

In our favorite form (infographic, of course!), Visual Economics maps out 40 years of ineffectually fighting drugs. Spoiler alert: In the past four decades, it has cost $1 billion to “fight” drugs, while making negligible progress.

Don’t worry, Uncle Sam… we loved the D.A.R.E. song.

Meet America’s partners in crime and find out exactly how much it costs to “just say no” by viewing the entire infographic at Visual Economics. CLICK HERE.

Tell us in the comments: What was the anti-drug campaign when you were in school?

I may or may not have won both DARE contests in my school (for poetry and tee-shirt design), and had lunch with the police department. I may or may not have been a total swot. I may or may not know exactly which DARE graduates to ask if I want to buy drugs.

  • DIWont

Sweet. We had DARE, too. What else was out there?
