The Beauty Of Football: Troy Polamalu Has Hair Worth $1 Million

Polamalu Hasn’t Cut His Hair In Seven Years.

Whether or not you’re a football fan (our own fandom depends largely on the success of the Giants), here’s a bit of football news that should spark a smile: Troy Polamalu, who plays safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers and serves as a spokesman for Head & Shoulders, has had his hair insured for $1 million.

The Dangers Of Long Hair

The Seattle Times reports that the insurance for the company’s spokes-hair was obtained by Head & Shoulders through Lloyd’s of London, and that the policy isn’t wholly unnecessary—Polamalu was once tackled by an opposing player grabbing his three-foot-long hair! Although such long locks may seem counterintuitive when one plays a helmet-wearing sport, the Samoan Polamalu wears it in deference to his heritage.

No Need To Go Overboard With The Policies

We always say that insurance policies are for things that will devastate you financially—health insurance, homeowner’s insurance, renter’s insurance—but it looks like the game is a little different when a seemingly replaceable asset ensures your job. And no, we don’t mean you should insure your shining intellect—we’re just wondering what happens if Polamalu gets a lousy haircut.

Tell us in the comments: Is this insurance policy justified or frivolous?
