We’re told that the FIFA World Cup is generating hysteria among American men, but we beg to differ. We women are excited, too! After years of playing forward on our college soccer team (should we call it football, in honor of South Africa?), the thought of witnessing the year’s biggest event makes us want to don a South African jersey and cheer for Bafana Bafana.
But how excited are we? The idea of cheering state-side is rather deflating, but flying to South Africa this week would set us back about $2032. If we were to go in August instead, a similar round trip would cost us $1508. South Africa would be just as awesome in August, but minus one rather significant draw. Is cheering in person worth the extra $524?
